About Nextgen Hoops

The league built for real development, real structure, and real results.

About Nextgen Hoops

NEXTGEN HOOPS was created to teach players how to play basketball the right way. Our league is designed around intentional decision-making, spacing concepts, and modern developmental rules that build real basketball IQ. Every aspect of the program helps players become smarter, more confident, and fundamentally sound, giving them the skills and understanding of the game needed to succeed anywhere.

The Problem We Are Solving

Youth basketball today is broken. Kids play a lot of games, but they do not learn how to play the right way. AAU teams focus on winning, not development. Practices are limited. Players who lack size or natural talent get ignored. Parents invest time and money but see no improvement.

NEXTGEN exists to fix that.

Alpha Bangura

NEXTGEN HOOPS was created by Alpha Bangura retired professional basketball player, Head Men’s basketball coach at Georgetown Day School, and long-time player development coach. With nearly 20 years of experience across the NBA, the NBA G League, and international leagues overseas, Alpha has played at the highest levels of the game, coached and developed hundreds of athletes.

He is also a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES), Sports Nutrition Coach (SNC), and Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) — credentials that uniquely position him to develop athletes both on the court and physically.

Drawing from this global background and blended expertise, he created NEXTGEN HOOPS to fix youth basketball development and give kids a real opportunity to grow through intentional skill work, structure, and teaching the game the right way.
